Super Second Grade
Popcorn and Peanuts

Serves 20 children as a snack

A second grade class from Annunciation School in Havelock, North Carolina, invented this snack, which is as much fun to make as it is to eat. The children donated their winnings to their school.

Three 3.5-ounce bags Newman's Own
   Oldstyle Picture Show Microwave Popcorn,
    All Natural Flavor,or your favorite
One 12-ounce bag roasted peanuts
1 cup brown sugar
1 stick (8 tablespoons) butter or margarine
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1. Pop the microwave popcorn according to package instructions.

2. Shell the peanuts. Put the popcorn and peanuts into a large brown paper bag.

3. Combine the remaining ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl. Cook for 2 minutes in the microwave on high power and pour into the bag. Close the bag tightly, shake thoroughly, and then eat.
